Welcome to Go Safari South Africa.
About Us
There is a particular kind of stillness that belongs to the South African veld just before dawn.
It’s the cold, sharp air on your face as you sit in the back of an open safari vehicle, watching the sky turn from darkness to pale amber and rose over Mpumalanga. The bush hasn’t fully awakened yet. Everything feels suspended for just a few minutes.
And somehow, out there, you remember how very small you are.
We didn’t learn South Africa from a luxury travel brochure, a tour company, or an Instagram feed.
South Africa is part of who we are.
Our lives and roots span two very different worlds: the fast-paced rhythms of the United States and the familiar soil, landscapes, people, and traditions of southern Africa. For us, South Africa has never been a collection of tourist attractions to check off a list. It is home.
It’s the warmth of a lived-in kitchen in Bloemfontein. Long Sunday afternoon braais with family. Dusty roads through small Free State towns. Conversations that stretch late into the evening. The smell of the bush after rain. And the unmistakable feeling of returning to a place that is deeply familiar.
Because we know both South Africa and the United States, we also understand what it feels like to travel between them.
We know the exhaustion of stepping off a long international flight and walking into the bustle of OR Tambo International Airport. We know the questions American travelers have before they arrive because we understand the world they are coming from.
- How safe is it really?
- Should I rent a car?
- Can I drive through Kruger myself?
- How much cash should I carry?
- Which areas should I avoid?
- What should I pack?
- Do I need malaria medication?
- Are the luxury safari lodges actually worth the price?
- And what happens when something doesn’t go according to plan?
Those are very different questions from simply asking, “What are the top ten things to do in South Africa?”
Over the years, we have experienced this country in many different ways.
We’ve stayed in secluded luxury game lodges where crisp linen, worn timber, lantern light, and private waterholes create the kind of safari experience people dream about for years.
We’ve also cooked simple meals over an open fire outside a SANParks rondavel in Kruger, listening to the bush settle into darkness.
We love both.
We appreciate the chipped ceramics and homemade breakfast at a small local guest house just as much as the fine white linen and impeccable service of a five-star lodge.
Because authentic travel doesn’t have to mean roughing it.
And luxury doesn’t have to feel sterile.
That philosophy is a big part of why Go Safari South Africa exists.
We became increasingly frustrated with generic travel platforms, recycled destination guides, and heavily filtered travel content that often looks beautiful but leaves out the information travelers actually need.
Planning a trip across the world can already feel overwhelming, particularly when South Africa is unfamiliar to you.
There are flights to coordinate, safari regions to understand, rental cars to consider, safety questions to navigate, luggage restrictions on small aircraft, park rules, tipping customs, weather differences, driving distances, accommodations, and dozens of small decisions that can make the difference between a stressful trip and an unforgettable one.
We want to make those decisions easier.
We’re not here to sell you a pre-packaged corporate tour.
We’re here to give you practical, independent, ground-level information so you can make informed choices and experience South Africa in a way that feels right for you.
That might mean waking before sunrise at an exclusive private safari concession.
It might mean driving yourself through Kruger with a cooler in the back of the car.
It might mean following the coastline, discovering a quiet seaside town, staying at a family-run guest house, or spending considerably less money than you imagined while still having an extraordinary experience.
There is no single “right” way to see South Africa.
Our goal is to help you understand your options, avoid expensive mistakes, feel confident about the logistics, and experience more of the South Africa that exists beyond the glossy brochures.
The South Africa we know is complicated, beautiful, imperfect, warm, surprising, wild, sophisticated, and unforgettable.
And we would love to help you discover it.
Welcome to Go Safari South Africa.
Let’s get you to South Africa.
